The City of Ekurhuleni has dismissed a fake tweet circulating on social media, falsely attributed to its official X account, and urged residents to verify information through official channels.

The City of Ekurhuleni has distanced itself from a fabricated tweet circulating online, which was falsely attributed to the City’s official social media account.

The fake post, allegedly commenting on matters related to the Madlanga Commission, was not issued by the City and was digitally altered to appear legitimate.

In an official statement, the City clarified that it remains fully committed to co-operating with the Madlanga Commission through proper and formal processes.

“The City remains fully committed to cooperating with the Madlanga Commission and will respond to any matters or allegations directly through the Commission’s official processes – not via social media,” the statement read.

Residents are urged to be cautious of misinformation and to verify any communication claiming to be from the City of Ekurhuleni.
