Armed robbers target doctor’s office in Clayville

The personnel at the clinic in Clayville's Ext 79 were occupied with their duties when two of the robbers entered under the pretence of making a payment.

Six men are wanted for robbing a doctor’s office on July 14.

According to police, they fled with an undisclosed amount of money, a car, and six cellphones.

The personnel at the clinic in Clayville’s Ext 79 were occupied with their duties when two of the robbers entered under the pretence of making a payment.

This is according to Ekurhuleni district communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela.

“One of the two men sat down while the other approached an administrative clerk.

“The other robbers were outside. Shortly afterwards the staff was threatened at gunpoint, and the entire staff, including the doctor, were corralled into the operating room.

“The doctor was then forced into transferring money into one of the suspect’s accounts. All the phones belonging to the doctor and his staff and a Ford Ranger were taken.

“Before the robbers left they locked the victims in a bathroom. A case of robbery has been opened at the Ivory Park Police Station,” said Sekgobela.

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, is calling on any member of the public who saw or knows anything about the robbery to inform the police. This tip-off can be done anonymously.

“The tragedy of crimes such as these is that service providers may end up closing shop, thus costing law-abiding users to drive far to receive medical treatment,” said Ngcobo.

Anyone who has information on the robbers may tip the police on 08600 10111.
