Biker killed in horrific Chloorkop collision

On August 1, a horrific collision took place at the intersection of Zuurfontein and Allandale roads.

Authorities from the EMPD, stationed at the Edleen Precinct, swiftly responded to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.

According to EMPD communications officer, Marie Mashishi, upon arrival, officers were met with a devastating sight, as the intersection was occupied by the wreckage of the vehicles involved.

“Amid this tragedy, the aftermath of the collision also left several others injured.

“Eight passengers from the minibus taxi, as well as a male pedestrian sustained varying degrees of serious and slight injuries.

“Prompt medical assistance was provided and all the injured individuals were transported to different hospitals within the Kempton Park and Thembisa areas.

However, focus quickly shifted to the 40-year-old male driver of the Volvo SUV.

“After initial investigations and assessments at the scene, the driver was apprehended and taken into custody by the authorities.

“Currently being held at the Norkem Park Police Station, the driver now faces charges of culpable homicide.

Furthermore, pending the completion of their investigation, the suspect is set to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.

“To preserve and safeguard the involved SUV Volvo was securely transported to Naturena.

“The EMPD urges all road users to exercise vigilance, adhere to traffic rules, and prioritise safety at all times to prevent further tragedies like this from occurring in the future,” said Mashishi.
