Car chase ends in fiery crash in Thembisa
Despite law enforcement’s efforts, one individual fled the scene and is at large.
Members of the Tembisa Tekkie Squad and the Criminal Investigation (CI) Unit were involved in a high-speed car chase that ended in a crash on August 19.
The incident happened at about 15:00 in Thembisa.
According to the SAPS Ekurhuleni district spokesperson, Captain Neldah Sekgobela, officers were on surveillance at the Swazi Inn after a planned operation to target foreign nationals involved in cellphone-related crimes.
Their attention drew them to three individuals who left a foreign shop and entered a metallic blue Toyota Corolla.

They behaved suspiciously while doing so. Without wasting time, the Tekkie Squad and CI members pursued the vehicle.
However, as they tried to stop the Corolla, the driver accelerated and fired shots at the officers, sparking a dangerous chase.
The pursuit continued to Temong Junction, where the driver lost control, colliding with a light pole and causing the car to burst into flames.
Despite their efforts, one individual fled the scene and is at large.
Authorities are searching for the suspect. Two occupants were unable to escape and perished in the fire.

In a significant development, law enforcement officials discovered a firearm next to the wreckage of the Toyota Corolla, further highlighting the dangerous nature of the situation and the potential threat posed by the individuals involved.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to gather more information and piece together the events leading up to the car chase and subsequent crash.
They urged the Thembisa community to remain vigilant and report any information that might assist the police in locating the suspect who evaded capture.
