Esther Park residents in sewerage mess
According to the residents said the leakage gets even worse when everyone is using the bathroom, the burst is disturbing to an extend that the pipes inside the house make sounds like a volcano’s about to erupt.
Last week residents of Esther Park were left to deal with a large sewerage blockage.
The blockage was first detected on September 9 and reported to the City of Ekurhuleni.
Resident Taurai Banda said the matter was reported to the city twice the following day, September 10.
“I feel matters like sewerage-related issues should be a priority. The CoE should attend to it immediately as this poses a serious health hazard to residents.
“We haven’t been able to open our windows since it was first reported. It is difficult to live with the stench, our children have to cross this mess daily,” said Banda.

He added that the sewage could be smelled from across the road.

Fellow resident Mthunzi Dube said he is disappointed by the CoE’s poor services.
“For a few weeks we had issues regarding waste not being collected. Now we have logged complaints for sewerage blockages and still they haven’t attended to it.”
According to the residents, the blockage and subsequent leaks worsened at times when bathrooms were used.
“The blockage is disturbing to the extend that the pipes inside the house make sounds like a volcano’s about to erupt.
“We have had to bear with the smell for so many days now. We plead with the CoE to urgently attend to the matter before the situation gets worse,” said Dube.
