Police take steps against increased house robberies in Winnie Mandela

The persistent increase in house robberies has become a cause for great concern among the residents of Winnie Mandela, prompting SAPS Vispol commander Colonel Percy Selematsela to take decisive action.
The police organised community engagements repeatedly in this area, with the active involvement of the sector managers from all seven sectors of Thembisa.

The intensified police presence in Winnie Mandela had the unintended consequence that it displaced criminal activities to other parts of Thembisa.
This shift in crime trends underscores the need for continued vigilance and collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the community.
Captain Nelda Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni district communications officer, acknowledged the challenges in combating these crimes but assured residents the fight was far from over.
Speaking to the Thembisan, Sekgobela emphasised the importance of individual and collective responsibility in ensuring personal safety and security.
“Although the police force works tirelessly to address the surge in house robberies, it is equally crucial for the community to remain cautious of their surroundings,” Sekgobela said.
“Together, we can create a safer environment by reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with law enforcement agencies.”

The goal is to restore peace and security to the affected areas, providing the residents with a sense of relief and reassurance.
Selematsela and his team are committed to working closely with community leaders, residents, and other stakeholders to devise effective strategies to deter criminals and ensure the quick apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for these brazen acts.
He said as their fight against house robberies continues, the community’s active participation remains pivotal.
