Local woman scoops Women Empowerment Award
Dinalane said she is proud to be representing South Africa in London in April 2024 for the Universal Heroes Awards.

The South African Heroes Award (SAHA) held its fifth annual celebration at Joburg Theatre on Saturday, September 30, where they honoured unsung heroes who go above and beyond to assist others in any manner they can.
These heroes change the lives of different individuals daily.
Cynthia Dinalane, founder and director of Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organisation, scooped an award.
She won the Women Empowerment Award for the upliftment and empowerment of women.

Dinalane said the award meant the world to her and showed that South Africans recognised her work.
“I feel proud to be one of the South African heroes. This award is empowering me to do more and make our country a better place, free from GBV,” said Dinalane.
“I am happy that people in Thembisa and Kempton Park and South Africa, believe in me.
“What made me even prouder was to hear many award recipients on that day declare, ‘Cynthia, you are our role model, and our inspiration’, respectively, during their speeches. Because of those words spoken by individuals from other provinces, I was completely overwhelmed,” said Dinalane.

She stated she doesn’t know who nominated her organisation or herself.
“I received a call from the SAHA team asking me to email them my bio, which I did, and after that, they sent us posters asking South Africans to cast their votes for us.”
Tshegofatsa Rona has been a registered NPO since 2020 providing care for 280 impoverished families in Thembisa and Kempton Park.
According to Dinalane, Kempton Park and Thembisa have a high rate of GBV.
“I saw many women abused and remaining in those abusive environments because they have nowhere else to go. I took them in so they could feel safe and loved.”
“Since I started, I have helped over 87 women stand on their own, work for themselves, have their own homes and are GBV-free.
