Local woman asks community to help raise funds for her father’s surgery

“We really want my dad to spend the next few years happy and enjoying a full life without any pain, playing with his grand kids. He really deserves this, he has always been willing to help all of us, and it’s time for us to help him.”

Audrey du Plessis has asked Kempton Park residents to assist her in raising funds for her father who needs to undergo surgery.

She said Abraham (79), who has been a resident of Kempton Park since 1971, urgently needs a back operation.
According to Audrey this will be her father’s second back operation as the first one failed.

“He had his first operation four years ago and exhausted all his savings to cover the cost of the operation and previous health problems have strained his finances as well.

“If he does not get this operation he will be paralysed within the next few months,” said Audrey.

Abraham owns Garden Enterprises, and the business has been in operation since 1984.

He is one of the longest surviving garden service companies in Kempton Park and is known for his bright and yellow-coloured vehicles.

“When I go to the shops with him, so many people greet him, and he always has a smile and time to have a quick chat. He is also known as Mr Keppies, as he always wears the same style hat.

“Everyone who knows my dad will attest to his busy schedule. He enjoys being outside and is constantly engaged in activities. It is simply not in his nature to sit still.

“For the past few weeks, he has been in bed and has been unable to move or care for himself. He is in a lot of agony, and if he tries to move, the suffering worsens.

“My strong, independent father now depends on me for even the simplest duties and it tears my heart,” said Audrey.

She added that her father has always been the rock of their family who takes care of himself and those around him.

“We really want my dad to spend the next few years happy and enjoying a full life without any pain, playing with his grandkids. He really deserves this, he has always been willing to help all of us, and it’s time for us to help him.

“He always listens and tries to give the best advice. He has never asked us for anything, but today I am asking you to please help me raise the funds for my dad, to help me get him get his life, as well as his freedom, back.

“Even if I don’t make target, every small donation will help,” added Audrey.

She created a Back-a-Buddy fundraising page to help cover the medical costs. Residents who wish to help can visit www.backabuddy.co.za/abraham-du-plessis-5717406614028777890
