125 suspects arrested by local flying squad

Rapid Response recovered 48 vehicles and 11 firearms between October 13 and 19.

Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 125 suspects, recovering 48 motor vehicles and 11 firearms between October 13 and October 19.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 68 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, defeating the ends of justice, robbery, malicious damage to property, armed robbery, theft, possession of suspected stolen goods, rape, and driving under the influence.

Forty-eight hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with seven arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Eleven unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying 11 arrests.

In further policing, 39 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations will continue into all cases.

The suspects will be appearing in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
