Ivory Park man gets life in prison following rape and kidnapping
The male companion forcibly led the victim to RDP houses, where he subjected her to a brutal assault.
The Tembisa Magistrate’s Court has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to Sello Moloto for rape and kidnapping.
The verdict was delivered on October 30, marking a significant victory for justice and the safety of the community.
According to Ekurhuleni district media liaison officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the incident unfolded on February 19, 2021, in Ivory Park Ext 11, when the victim, having spent the evening at a local tavern with friends, became the target of a horrifying attack.

“As the night concluded, the victim, accompanied by a male acquaintance from the tavern, decided to escort her friend home.
The situation took a sinister turn as they walked back. The male companion forcibly led the victim to RDP houses, where he subjected her to a brutal assault.
“The assailant, later identified as Sello Moloto, strangled the victim, used a shoelace to further restrain her and proceeded to engage in a night-long ordeal of rape.

“The victim’s cries for help were met with violence and it was not until the morning that she found an opportunity to escape with the assistance of individuals at a nearby car wash.
“Sergeant Sepakela of the Tembisa FCS arrested Moloto on March 6, 2021,” said Sekgobela.
The investigation that led to the conviction was spearheaded by Sergeant Livhuani Mphaho of the Tembisa Family Violence and Child Protection Service Unit.
Major General Anna Sithole, Ekurhuleni district commissioner, commended the dedication of Mphaho, highlighting the commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and the safeguarding of the community.
