Hoërskool Kempton Park learner takes on international stage in Los Angeles (US)

The multi-talented learner’s proud mother, Natasya Basson, said she had an amazing experience.

Alney Basson, of Impala Park, has been dreaming of going to Hollywood since a very young age.

This dream recently started to become a reality for the Grade Nine learner from Hoërskool Kempton Park.

In February, last year, Izak Davel asked her to be part of his cast for a short film that he directed, produced and entered into for the Cannes Film Festival.

Alney then did an audition for the International Presentation of Performers.

She received a callback and was selected by the director, Tanielle Ladwig, of DMH Talent Agency to take part in the iPOP event in Los Angeles in December last year.

She participated in the acting, singing, modelling and dancing categories.

The multi-talented learner’s proud mother, Natasya Basson, said she had an amazing experience.

“From being in the showcase, callbacks, and receiving an unexpected award beyond her dreams – third runner-up for Fashion Print Model of the Year.

“Alney has received multiple opportunities from casting directors, record labels, managers and representatives of the top international agencies in the world.

“Thank you, Tanielle and Justin from DMH Talent. You believed in her. DMH Talent and iPOP allowed her to show the world her talent and that hard work and determination pay in the end,” Natasya added.

“Like any parent, you look at your child and just smile, thinking it is just another thing, not realising that they are being serious.

“But, it turned out not to be just another thing. This was what she wanted. She wants to be an actress and singer; she wants to be on that red carpet.

Furthermore, she expressed her gratitude to those who assisted Alney with the funds and sponsorships needed to get her onto the stage.

“Their support meant the world to us and especially for Alney and her dad, who spent his free time making chilli bites to make it all possible.”

Natasya explained Alney started with guitar lessons at La Musique Music Studios in Boksburg at the age of five and later added singing lessons, acting/drama and dance classes to her list.

She participated in school choirs, revues, the East Rand Children’s Choir and is currently a member of the East Rand Youth Choir.

Moreover, Natasya explained Alney faced many struggles.

“She was diagnosed with an immune deficiency in 2019. Because of this, she lost a lot of weight and is very tall for her age.

“She was teased and bullied for the way she looked. We told her to keep strong, hold her chin up and go after her dream. No one can take that from you.

“We believe in you and whatever you set your heart on, you can achieve it.

“We were so truly blessed and so proud of her.”
