One dead, 35 injured in taxi crash

35 injured passengers and the two drivers were transported to local medical facilities for treatment of injuries ranging from slight to severe.

One person died and 35 others were injured in a crash that involved two taxis this morning, March 8.

According to information received, the two taxis collided at the intersection of Main Road and Porcelain Street, Clayville.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene shortly after the crash.

EMPD spokesperson Marie Mashishi said woman in her 30’s was declared dead on scene.

Patients were treated on scene before they were taken to medical facilities nearby. Photograph submitted.

“35 passengers and two drivers were taken to different hospitals around Thembisa.”

She added that passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries from slight to serious.
