Suspect arrested for attempted murder in Kempton CBD

Police opened further cases of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition against the suspect.

Kempton Park SAPS detectives arrested one suspect on March 13 after he shot at police officers along Oak Street in the Kempton Park CBD.

According to Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego, the officers were tracing the suspect, wanted on a charge of murder from a case in February.

“Officers spotted the suspect at corner of Oak and West streets.

“When the suspect saw the officers he started running and was followed by the officers until he reached the intersection of Oak and Jubilee streets.”

Ditshego said the suspect then picked a brick up and ran towards them.

“The officers warned the man that he will be shot and the suspect retrieved a firearm from his pants and fired one shot in the direction of the officers.”

She said the Kempton Park officers returned fire, shooting the man.

“The suspect was injured and taken to Tembisa Hospital under police guard for treatment.”

Police opened further cases of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition against the suspect.

Ditshego said the officers recovered a 9mm Beretta pistol without a serial number and one magazine with one live round from the suspect.
