Local recovering addicts welcomed home after completing programme
The organisation holds sessions every Tuesday where drug addicts are taught self-care, forgiveness, acceptance and appreciation.
Tembisa Drugs Rehabilitation Movement recently welcomed home 11 recovering drug addicts at a ceremony held in the Difateng Section.
The recovering addicts had completed their rehabilitation process at a centre in Pretoria.
The Thembisa-based organisation works closely with family members and drug addicts who are willing to get clean and live a drug-free life.

The organisation holds sessions every Tuesday where drug addicts are taught self-care, forgiveness, acceptance and appreciation.
During the sessions, attendees are encouraged to be open about the challenges and situations that led them to take drugs.
After they have learned the pillars of the sessions, they are then sent to a rehabilitation centre where they receive treatment and additional knowledge and skills on how to live a drug-free life.
Founder of Tembisa Drugs Rehabilitation Movement, Thato Matome, said the sessions have helped many people who are now spreading the message.
“Every Tuesday I host sessions in my garage where I cater for drug addicts and also give them a platform to share their experiences and accept the reality. We do this to strengthen their faith and not to blame themselves for resorting to drugs.

“These sessions have helped a lot of people as they are willing to work with me to help them get clean and live a drug-free life.

“At the moment, we don’t have a shelter in Thembisa, but with God’s grace, we believe that we will have one soon.
“As a recovering drug addict myself, I know how hard it gets when one needs that fix, therefore I decided to go to rehab, clean myself up and have the courage to help inspire another person,” said Matome.
Recovering drug addict Glen Mazibuko said they are grateful for everyone who supported them during their recovery journey.
“We gather to celebrate our courage of destroying nyaope and crystal meth. We would like to thank everyone who has been there for us.
“The journey has not been easy, but by God’s grace, we are drug-free, and we are ready for any opportunities the world is willing to offer us. We thank family members and the movement for giving us hope and a second chance.”
