Residents show support for blood drive at Harvest Place

SANBS recently went on a blood drive to get as much blood as possible to insure the blood bank doesn't run dry.

SANBS is on a quest to get as much blood as possible to avoid the blood bank running dry.

Kempton Park residents came out in their numbers to support the good cause.

Various Gauteng SANBS branches were on a mission to collect 5 000 units of blood on the day.

Donor recruiter Khanyisile Mkwanazi said that the amount of blood that was available on April 13 was going to be enough for about three days.

“The drive went well and people came out in their numbers. It’s good that people realise the importance of donating blood,” she said.

She encouraged those who are against blood donation for various reasons to get educated on the importance of it.

One of the blood donors, Tharia Binneman, said that blood donation is extremely important.

“It’s something that everyone should do, as it helps a lot of people in need.

“Donating blood is not as bad as people might think. It’s really quick and it takes about 20 minutes. People need to donate,” she said.

Another donor Nicky Nel said, “I’m a blood donor because I feel that it is important to the community. To donate blood is to give life, and life is the most precious gift you can give to anyone.”
