Kempton Park family needs R317 000 for dads medical treatment
“Every day is not given. If he is not admitted and does not get the treatment, he won’t survive the next clot."
Tanya de Souza-Allegria and her family have asked the community of Kempton Park to assist them in raising funds for her father, John De Souza-Allegria, who needs urgent medical attention.
Tanya said her father needs R317 000 to cover his medical bills, which includes five days in ICU and two days in high care.
She added that her father went for his first heart operation in 2010 when he received a pacemaker sponsored by Revive Paulse.

“This year he has been getting severe epileptic episodes while sleeping. During one of these episodes, a blood clot shot up into his brain and he had a stroke,” she said.
She said she took her father to casualties on August 2.
“We paid for a CT scan and some blood tests. The doctor discovered that there was no more space in his brain for an episode or blood clot.
“He needs to be admitted to ICU for 12 days to get the proper treatment so that he can get better,” said De Souza-Allegria.
“I never realised that as a daughter I would ever have to tell my father the awful news, knowing he fought for his life multiple times with his heart condition.

“The doctor refused to discharge him as his condition is severe. My father looked me in my eyes, and asked me if it was over,” said De Souza-Allegria. She said they unfortunately had to discharge him because he doesn’t have medical aid.
“Even if he had medical aid, he would be excluded for his heart condition.”
She said her father is a well-known former rugby player in 1983, who has been a Kempton Park resident since 1964 and won the administrative cup that year.
“My father will be 60 on September 10 and we share a birthday. I do not want to lose him,” said Tanya.
She said it was heartbreaking to see her father in that condition.
“My father was always up and going but his current state breaks my heart,” said Tanya.
“My father is in so much pain, sleeping and being so confused. I am trying my utmost best to help him in any possible way to get the treatment he deserves. I wish I could take his pain even for just a day.”
Tanya said the monthly instalments were just not affordable.
“Every day is not given.”
