Parents urged to register Grade 1 and 8 learners on time – GDE
Late applications for grades 1 and 8 close on January 30.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has reminded parents that the late application period for Grade 1 and 8 admissions will close on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Parents who have not yet secured space for their child in Grade 1 or Grade 8 at a Gauteng public school are encouraged to visit the GDE’s website: www.gdeadmissions.gov.za and apply before the deadline.
The GDE has placed a total of 325,858 learners (157,406 in Grade 1 and 168,452 in Grade 8) with complete applications since the online admissions application period began in July 2024.

An additional 32,587 late online applicants have been placed in Grades One and Eight, to date.
The department has also established satellite schools to provide additional spaces in high-pressure areas, accommodating over 4,417 learners.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane urged parents to take advantage of the satellite schools, which have helped alleviate pressure in some areas.
“Our efforts to address all queries and placements at our offices are progressing efficiently, with noticeable reductions in the length of queues as we continue to assist all parents and guardians to secure a space for their children.

“We plead with parents to embrace satellite schools as they assist the department in alleviating pressure in some areas,” said Chiloane.
