Firefighters contain early morning house fire in Highveld Road

While the department will conduct a full investigation into the fire the preliminary cause is suspected to be linked to illegal occupation.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Services responded swiftly to a house fire on Highveld Road early this morning, June 1, with teams dispatched around 06:30.

The first team on scene, from Station 30 (Albertina), arrived to find an abandoned house, reportedly used by illegal occupants, already engulfed in flames.

Backup crews from Station 12 (Kempton Park) and Station 15 (Faramere) quickly joined the operation.

Together, the firefighters managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

After extinguishing the fire and completing damping down operations, a search and rescue was conducted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be linked to illegal occupation.

A Fire Safety Officer from the department will conduct a full investigation to confirm the origin and circumstances of the blaze.

The EMPD (Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department) assisted by closing the road to ensure the safety of emergency responders and to allow for uninterrupted firefighting operations.
