Kempton Park communities unite with Tutela to support vulnerable families

With the support of organisations like Hoërskool Birchleigh, Leapfrog Real Estates, and St Francis in the Woods Anglican Church, Tutela is driving positive change through feeding schemes, parenting workshops, and child protection programmes.

Tutela, a Christian faith-based community organisation established more than 90 years ago by the NG Church, remains committed to uplifting and empowering vulnerable individuals and families through compassionate, church-based social services.

Guided by the motto “Caring Brings Hope”, Tutela works in close partnership with local stakeholders, including Hoërskool Birchleigh, St Francis in the Woods Anglican Church Modderfontein, Leapfrog Real Estates, BI Attorneys, and the Classics Senior Citizens group from Ekurhuleni.

These collaborations have already made a visible impact in Kempton Park and surrounding communities.

Hoërskool Birchleigh has partnered with Tutela to support single parenting workshops, while St Francis in the Woods Anglican Church generously donated blankets and baby clothes for distribution in informal settlements on Mandela Day.

Leapfrog Real Estates and BI Attorneys contributed to feeding initiatives by facilitating a soup donation to assist the destitute.

The Classics Senior Citizens group, made up of 91 active members, plays an important role in community upliftment projects in Birchleigh, demonstrating that everyone—regardless of age—can help build a caring society.

Sipho Maphalala, chairperson of Tutela Kempton Park, expressed his appreciation for the growing network of support.

“Their contributions allow us to grow initiatives such as compassionate care, early intervention, and parenting workshops, making a real difference in our communities,” he said.

Each Friday, Tutela celebrates those who help drive its mission by presenting flowers to individuals or groups who support their cause.
