City confirms vandalism behind latest Bredell outage

The City of Ekurhuleni’s technicians continue to work around the clock to restore power to parts of Bredell a prolonged outage that began over the weekend.

What started as a technical fault at a local substation has since been compounded by multiple cable faults and acts of vandalism on the electrical network, prolonging restoration efforts.

According to City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, technicians have been on-site since the weekend and are now attending to the latest interruption affecting large parts of Bredell.

“The vandalism occurred while technicians were working on the network to restore power supply to Pomona, which had already been affected by an earlier supply interruption,” Dlamini said.

The estimated restoration time is 20:00 this evening, though Dlamini emphasised that teams are working with urgency to restore power sooner.
