Two bodies recovered by Gauteng water police after separate incidents

Divers from the Gauteng Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS) responded to two incidents in Gauteng, leading to the recovery of two bodies between January 31 and February 1.

Divers from the Gauteng Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS) responded to two incidents in Gauteng, leading to the recovery of two bodies between January 31 and February 1.

On January 31, Ekurhuleni WPDS members responded to a call about a body in water next to Elgin Road, Pomona.

On arrival, it was alleged that a security officer had shot a person who ran into the vlei and came to rest in the water.

The victim’s body lay 50m in the vlei and was recovered in 1m-deep water, then handed to the Kempton Park SAPS for further investigation.

On February 1 , Tshwane members were called to a drowning on a farm in Welbekend.

Allegedly, three young men went for a swim in a small quarry. One got into trouble and disappeared under the water, while the other two reached the bank.

After a 20-minute dive, the victim’s body was recovered and handed to the Welbekend SAPS.

These cases are under investigation by the local SAPS stations.
