Power outage hits parts of Kempton Park following loud explosion

Residents in Birchleigh, Glen Marais and Allen Grove were among those impacted by the failure, which began at approximately 17:20.

A major power outage hit large parts of Kempton Park this evening, February 10, shortly after 17:00, following reports of a loud explosion heard across several surrounding areas.

Kempton Park’s Share It Live reported that residents in Birchleigh, Glen Marais and Allen Grove were among those impacted by the electricity failure, which began at approximately 17:20.

The cause of the outage has not yet been officially confirmed.

Ward 15 councillor Amanda Davison confirmed that the City of Ekurhuleni is aware of the situation.

“We are aware of the outage affecting large areas of Kempton, including Birchleigh and Glen Marais, and have informed Energy, the MMC, HOD and the City Manager,” Davison said.

She added that updates would be shared as and when more information becomes available.

Ward 16 councillor Alderman Jaco Terblanche also acknowledged the outage affecting parts of Glen Marais and Allen Grove, confirming that the matter had been reported to the City’s Electricity Department.

“I have reported the complaints to the Electricity Department and I am currently awaiting feedback. I will communicate further as soon as I receive more information,” Terblanche said.
