Gauteng SAPS divers recover four bodies in multiple water incidents
The SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services responded to multiple water-related incidents across Gauteng between March 4 and 5, recovering four bodies.
SAPS divers from the Gauteng Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS) responded to several water-related incidents across the province, recovering four bodies between March 4 and 5.
On the morning of March 4, Tshwane WPDS attended a scene where a body was found floating in the Apies River at Wonderboompoort.
The unknown male victim’s body was discovered on an island in the middle of the river. With the assistance of a Fire Brigade ladder and basket, the body was recovered.

The same morning, Sedibeng responded to Duncanville, Vereeniging, where two bodies were recovered from a manhole with the assistance of Midvaal Fire Department through the use of rescue ropes. Allegedly, the victims were opening a blocked drain when they were overwhelmed by toxic gas.
Lastly, on March 5, at noon, Sedibeng WPDS went to a scene in Orange Farms.
The badly decomposed body of a 12-year-old boy who went missing on 2026-02-26 was recovered from a ditch and handed to Orange Farms SAPS for further processing.
Investigations continue in all cases.
