TCF secures legal backing as it pursues action against CoE

"Engagements mark a step forward in strengthening the Forum’s legal standing in pursuit of justice, transparency and accountability".

The Tembisa Community Forum (TCF) leadership has said it is continuing to pursue solutions to community challenges through strategic legal partnerships.

According to TCF chairperson Lelenkie Lefakane, the organisation recently engaged with legal experts to strengthen its efforts to hold the municipality accountable.

“On March 8, we met with Advocate Masego Mashego, an advocate of the High Court. Advocate Mashego has committed to assisting the Forum with legal matters against the municipality and will be filing an urgent application in the High Court to address pressing concerns,” said Lefakane.

On March 11, 2026, TCF leadership also met with AfriForum in Pretoria to explore further collaboration.

Key outcomes from the meeting included:

  • AfriForum acknowledged the Forum’s meeting request submitted last year, noting that scheduling constraints had delayed their response.

  • The organisation confirmed its willingness to collaborate with the TCF, within the scope of its mandate, to support the Forum’s efforts.

  • AfriForum’s assistance relates to supporting TCF with the submission of an application in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) to obtain information relevant to the project and issues addressed by TCF.

Lefakane said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be drafted and signed by both parties to formalise the cooperation under the guidance of their respective legal teams.

“These engagements mark a significant step forward in strengthening the Forum’s legal standing and broadening alliances in pursuit of justice, transparency and accountability,” Lefakane said.

“The TCF remains resolute in its mission to protect the rights of the people of Tembisa and to ensure that governance structures act in fairness and dignity.”
