Firefighters gain control of Brentwood Park industrial blaze
The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be investigated once the blaze has been extinguished and the site has been declared safe.
An industrial fire broke out at Elwin Manufacturers on Great North Road in Brentwood Park this afternoon, prompting a large-scale response from the City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS).
According to DEMS spokesperson Tikkie MacDonald, the fire started at approximately 16:50 at the facility, which manufactures and refurbishes oil transformers.
“City of Ekurhuleni firefighters responded immediately to the scene after a distress call was received,” said MacDonald.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be investigated once the blaze has been extinguished and the site has been declared safe for investigators to enter.

MacDonald confirmed that only a security guard was on the premises when the fire broke out. No injuries have been reported.
Great North Road was temporarily closed to allow emergency personnel access to the scene and to ensure the safety of the public.
Motorists are still urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes while emergency operations continue.
The scene remains active, with firefighters and other emergency services still working to contain the fire.
