Women encouraged to stand together against GBVF

Norkem Park SAPS Social Crime Prevention Co-Ordinator attended a women’s conference.

Norkem Park SAPS Social Crime Prevention Co-ordinator Sergeant Portia Mkhondo attended a women’s conference hosted by Women of Dominion, led by Pastor Thandi Ndobe, at Dominion Cathedral International Church in Birch Acres on August 8.

The conference brought women together to raise awareness about gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), share knowledge and encourage community members to stand together against violence.

Mkhondo addressed attendees on the impact of GBVF and emphasised the importance of speaking out against abuse, seeking assistance and reporting incidents of violence to the police.

According to Mkhondo, the speakers encouraged women to recognise their worth and remain strong in the face of difficult circumstances. They also urged women not to remain silent when dealing with challenges such as abuse.

Pastor Felane also addressed single women who are considering marriage, highlighting the importance of premarital counselling.

“The event ended on a positive note, with women leaving motivated, empowered, encouraged and prayed to make a difference in their families and community,” Mkhondo said.
