Kempton Park residents have once again been left without electricity, with the City of Ekurhuleni confirming that teams are attending to an outage affecting Birchleigh and surrounding areas.

In an update issued on September 22, the City said the outage was caused by the theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure.

“Our team is attending to a power outage caused by theft & vandalism of electrical infrastructure,” the City said.

The affected areas include Birchleigh and surrounding areas.

The City said the estimated restoration time is 22:00.

The outage has nevertheless left residents and ward councillors frustrated over communication during power interruptions.

Ward 15 Councillor Amanda Davison said she had also been unable to obtain meaningful feedback from Kempton Energy regarding the outage.

While power interruptions can occur, residents and councillors say timely updates and clear communication from the responsible department are important, particularly during prolonged outages.

The City’s latest update provides an estimated restoration time, with repair teams currently attending to the damage.

The Kempton Express has requested further comment and updates from the COE regarding the situation.
