Metro fails to address the issues around refuse removal

To submit a complaint via the number given, is as every reader is aware of just a waste of time

CAREL STEVENS writes:

Thank you Kempton Express for publishing the numerous complaints indicating the failure by the council regarding refuse removal.

The reply as published is very evident of what the removal action by the council should be and what all residents expect.

However, like only politicians can, they do not address and give resolutions to some of the issues.

It is very apparent that the removal does not happen as per the schedule for Ward 16 as indicated by the numerous complaints published (page 10 June 28).

They state that bins must be placed outside on the scheduled days only, and not after the collection vehicles have passed when the majority are placed out at 7am before work and found unserviced on return at 5pm or 6pm.

They, however, refer to vehicle service and breakdowns and that bins not serviced must be left out for possible later collection during the week. Is that not double standards?

Bins’ lids must be closed but with the non-removal for up to three weeks the accumulation of refuse is too much for the 240l bins. Therefore the overload and lids not able to be closed – again more evidence on the failure of service.

Yet they encourage that additional bins be obtained at an obvious additional cost to the residents which will only increase the workload on the current failing system.

To say that the non-service since January is erroneous and service is regularly monitored, this can be very easily verified by the Ward 16 councillor’s records of complaints received and referred to the department.

To submit a complaint via the number given is as every reader is aware of just a waste of time and money as the continued failure to respond by the council is a very well documented fact as seen on many of your editions through the past months and years.

To minimise waste they encourage recycling but do not elaborate or indicate any further information in this regard. They must indicate how they will be able to collect the additional recycled items with the current system and vehicles not coping.
