FOSSA, the name of a Ford Anglia prepared by the tuxracing team of Birch Acres, has cemented the championship title, Legends Pre66 Class U, in the historic racing events.
The team, Annalie Visagie (team manager), Chris (Roach) Visagie, Lionel Da Silva and Michelle (Powerslide) Groenewald, bought Fossa in February 2012.
Five months later she had her debut race at a Midas Historic Racing event hosted at Zwartkops Raceway.
However, winning the title did not come without its challenges.
The tuxracing team have had quite a year which started with a few engine challenges but engine reliability returned in June.
At the July event the team had a new clutch disintegrate and spent the freezing Friday night at Zwartkops Raceway, working long hours but they were ready to race on the Saturday morning.
They encountered their next challenge at the final event on November 9.
Fossa’s gearbox decided to start singing but despite that they had one of their best race days to date.
“Our Anglia’s exact manufacture date is not known to us. They did, however, stop the manufacturing of these cars in 1968,” Chris Visagie, the driver, said.
