JEFFREY Kruger and sister Robyn from Kempton Park both travelled to the Buddh International F1 Circuit in New Delhi on November 29 and 30 to take part in the international race.
Jefferey campaigned the final round and Robyn was a guest driver in the JK Tyre Polo R cup championship.
The Friday’s practice race went well with Jeff being the fastest in all of the three sessions and Robyn comfortably within the top five.
Qualifying on Saturday morning saw Jeff starting in pole position and Robyn third. Race one was brilliant for both of the siblings who dominated the proceedings and occupied the top two podium places.
After the race both Robyn and Jeff commented: “It was a very special moment when we both stood on the podium with our national flag suspended above listening to the South African national anthem being played. We had never imagined standing on an international podium together.”
For race two, the top eight places of race one were inverted which meant that Jeff would start eighth and Robyn seventh. A great start by both the siblings saw Jeff up to second place and Robyn to fifth after just three laps when the race was red flagged due to a serious accident.
Race three’s grid positions were determined by the second best time posted in qualifying. Again Jeff was on pole and Robyn third. Jeffrey dominated the race winning by nine seconds while Robyn fought her way to second place only to experience some minor technical issues during the final stages of the race resulting in her loosing two places but still finishing in a very respectable fourth place.
Jeffrey netted seven race wins this season and was awarded Star Polo Cup Driver of the year and also a guest driver in the Polish Castrol Golf Cup Series next year. He hopes to attract some sponsors, raise some funds and take part in all the rounds.
