Academy swimmers compete at EGA
The Academy swimmers competed for ESP Club, which received an overall combined fourth place
SWIMMERS from Aquatic Academy, under the banner of ESP, along with 23 other clubs, competed in the 2013 Eastern Gauteng Championships at the beginning of December at the Delville Pool.
Swimmers of all age groups competed in heats to qualify for a top 8 spot in the final events.
The Academy swimmers competed for ESP Club, which received an overall combined fourth place. The ESP girls got a second place and the boys team was sixth.
Amber Trollope of the Academy won the 9 and under Victrix Ludorum, taking 10 medals (4 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze). Her brother Jayden broke the 200m Eastern Gauteng breaststroke record for 10-11 years in a time of 3:13.78. He won two gold and two silver medals.
Overall, including relays, Academy swimmers claimed 109 finalist ribbons. They got 22 gold, 17 silver and 22 bronze medals.
Most of the swimmers repeatedly bettered their times. Some swimmers that received medals were Ashleigh Stock (2 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze and 9 final ribbons), Caitlyn Stott (3 gold, 4 silver and 7 finals), Jessica Burgess (2 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze and 11 finals), Savannah Mitchell (2 gold, 2 bronze and 11 finals, Tamar Clark (1 gold, 2 silver and 7 finals) and Colette Fourie (1 gold and 2 bronze).
The most competitive age groups were 10/11 and 12/13 years, often attracting more than 60 swimmers per age group. These championships always attract a high number of younger out of province swimmers.
