Great training for the Dusi
They finished the 35km race, which incorporated three running portages, in 2 hours 43 minutes as the 21st double boat
FRANZ Lottering from Kempton Park and Vallon Kupferberg from Boksburg, both members of the Benoni based canoe club at Homestead Dam, finished the 35km Dusi training race, which incorporated three running portages, in 2 hours 43 minutes as the 21st double boat, and the second sub master finishers and are looking forward to a successful Dusi event in February.
The final race of the Belloord series of races, hosted by Florida Lake Canoe Club throughout 2013, took place on the Klip River from Daleside to Meyerton on December 8.
The series of races sponsored by Belloord, a West Rand based labour consultancy, has ensured regular races on the river with good attendance attracted by giveaways on entry, spot prizes as well as cash for winners of age categories, overall winners and lucky draws for all participants.
The series included a couple of compulsory races, which enabled qualifiers to be in the final draw where six boats were won together with canoeing equipment, lifejackets, paddles, water drinking systems and spraydecks, making it the most viable value for money training opportunity for canoeists throughout the year.
The final race in December was a superb Dusi training event with portages where paddlers got out of the river and ran with their boats, and was extremely competitive as a great opportunity to suss the competition for Dusi and iron out wrinkles in partnerships, with the 2014 Dusi in February being a doubles event.
