Premier XI cruise past CBC oOd Boys
Man of the match Fourie did most of the damage, claiming figures of 4/13 in six overs
KEMPTON Park Cricket Club’s premier XI cruised to a 113-run victory over CBC Old Boys at the weekend.
Kempton lost the toss and were asked to bat. The batsmen got stuck in on a very tricky wicket in the morning and after a slow start, managed to post a very daunting 278/3 in their 50 overs, thanks to a 97-run last 10-over stand between Grant Thomson (50*) and Big hitting Clayton Ceronio (47*).
The foundation was earlier set by skipper Johan Fourie, who scored a magnificent 106 and Marius Lubbe (51), ensuring the final onslaught.
The Kempton bowlers came out firing on all cylinders but some stubborn resistance from the CBC batsmen eventually saw them being dismissed for 165 in 43 overs.
Man of the match Fourie did most of the damage, claiming figures of 4/13 in six overs. The damage was done up front by Easterns bowler Kyle Marshall, who picked up the first three scalps for 10 runs in five overs.
The promotion side defeated Daveyton in a match reduced to 34 overs due to a damp wicket. Kempton won the toss and sent the opposition in to bat in somewhat difficult conditions.
Daveyton were dismissed for 75 inside 20 overs. Gavin Ralph claimed 2/6 in four overs up front and Zander Muller 3/11.
Kempton set about the target in typically aggressive fashion and chased down the target in 13 overs. Brett luck top scored with 26 and was supported by Wynand Hefer (18) and Joshua Wilken (15*).
Juniors
The U/8As played Actonville in an away match in Benoni on Saturday.
The Benoni side (batting first) scored 81 all out in 24 overs. Kempton was outstanding with the ball and brilliant when it came to fielding with five run outs (three direct hits). T
The top bowlers were Ian van Rhyn (2/8), Floors Mynhardt (2/14) and Aiden Patterson (1/6).
Kempton defended their wickets well but had a slowish start, ticking the scoreboard to 37/1 at the drinks break.
Connor le Grange (26*) and Ian van Rhyn (23*) opened up the taps after the break, hitting the winning target (82/1) with seven overs to spare.
Rueben Jordaan took the most amazing diving catch to get rid of Ulmar. Man of the match went to Floors Mynhardt with his 2/14, a direct hit run out and scoring 10*.
A comfortable 135-run win for Kempton U/10A side against Actonville at Summerfields Primary School with Sarel Erasmus scoring 55* before being retired.
All the Friday night games were rained out.
