One-run win for Kempton in U/8A thriller

A great run out by Aiden Patterson (man of the match) left Avion to lose the match by a narrow one run

THE build up to the local U/8A derby between Kempton Park and Avion Park Junior Cricket Clubs created great excitement among players, coaches and parents and the match proofed to be just that.

Kempton batted first and made 87/6 in their 25 overs. Avion was in trouble at the start, being 0/2 after the first over.

They recovered well and picked up the pace needing four runs from 18 balls to win.

When the ninth wicket fell, Avion needed one run to win with 15 balls. A great run out by Aiden Patterson (man of the match) left Avion to lose the match by a narrow one run.

Performers with the ball for Kempton were Jarrod Kyle (2/7), Ian van Rhyn (1/2), Divan de Vries (1/5), Floors Mynhardt (1/7), Matt Mendoza (1/6) and Rueben Jordaan (1/7).

The top four batsmen were Ian van Rhyn (17*), Joshua Shanker (16), Divan de Vries (9*) and Floors Mynhardt (8).

Hats off to both teams and supporters for showing great spirit in which this game was played.

Kempton’s U/8B side played United in Springs. United batted first and scored 67/4 in 25 overs. The top Kempton bowlers were Deklin Bekker (1/3), Jaques Naude (1/3), Matthew Caldwell (1/3) and Jean Groenewald (1/3).

Kempton scored 54/4 in their 25 overs. the top batsmen were Jean Groenewald (9), Caleb James (7) and Deklin Bekker (4*). Man of the Match went to Deklin Bekker. Kempton came 13 runs short.

The U/10 super league side lost to United by 10 wickets. Kempton only managed to score 43/9 with man of the match, James Enslin, on 10*. United scored the winning runs without losing a wicket.

The U/10A team recorded a win against Watville without bowling a single ball. Watville did not show up for the match.

The U/12 super league side beat Benoni Northens by 14 runs on Saturday. Man of the match was awarded to Justin Bennet for his 3/9.

Others who excelled were Lawrence Johnson (2/17) and Kyle Baron (2/19). Top scorers with the bat were Gareth Matthysen (63) and Troy Kyle (39*).

The U/12C team was beaten by Benoni B on Friday night.
