Duathletes can now also enter

The only difference for the duathletes will be that they start with a 2.5km run instead of a swim leg

DUE to numerous requests from duathletes the organisers of the 2013/2014 X-DIRT Triathlon Challenge have decided to add a duathlon section to the three remaining races.

Both will be sprint events with the triathlon races consisting of a 600m swim, 20km road cycle or 14-16km mountain bike stage – depending on the competitor’s preference – and a 5km run leg.

The only difference for the duathletes will be that they start with a 2.5km run instead of a swim leg and then follow the same cycle and run course and distances as the triathletes.

Teams of two are also welcome to participate.

The Next X-Dirt Challenge is scheduled to take place at Roodeplaat Dam on March 2 and the action will then move to Buffelspoort Dam on March 30, with the final event of the competition at Heron Banks Golf & River Estate, Vanderbijlpark on April 6.

To make it a fun day out for the entire family and help get children active, X-DIRT Triathlon Challenge events also include a kiddies race which takes place prior to the main event.

The children’s stamina will only be tested over short distances starting at 8am on race days, followed by the main triathlon and duathlon events for junior (16-19), open and senior division athletes – kicking off at 9am.

Triathletes and duathletes can enter online at www.xdirt.co.za with pre-entry costing R290 (including TSA day license fee and excluding timing chip hire) for individuals and R580 a team. Late entries will be accepted on race day from 6am at an increased fee of R310 (individuals) and R620 (teams). TSA members can participate at R240 (pre-entry) and R260 (late entry).
