Fast growth in indoor football

The leagues run all year round and the games are played at night from 6.30pm as well as on weekends

SIX-A-SIDE football or indoor football is one of the fastest growing forms of football in the world.

It is a fast, dynamic game played on smaller size football fields, usually with astro turf and nets to stop the ball from going out, allowing a continuous flow of the game.

At the Modder Sports Complex they are top of the league when it comes to six-a-side astro football. They play with a heavier Futsal ball enabling a more touch-friendly and accurate game of football.

You are in control of the game – nets are not part of how they play. This allows you to be more accurate in your passing, shooting and distribution.

This means they are replicating the 11-a-side games as much as possible onto a smaller pitch with fewer players, which leads to a very exciting form of playing and watching.

The club’s core business model is organising adult six-a-side football leagues. While this is mostly a sport played after hours or on weekends, they do offer leagues for the youngsters too.

Teams pay a weekly match fee of R300 a game, this works out roughly to R30 a player, depending on the number of players a team has. Teams play each other twice a season in a standard league format.

The leagues run all year round and the games are played at night from 6.30pm as well as on weekends. They also offer half price Sunday football for adult leagues.

There are usually between eight and 12 teams in each division and a season runs between 18-21 weeks.

Matches are 40 minutes long and 10 players (six plus four subs) can be used per match. Teams can also use more than 10 players a season.
