Kempton firsts secure 24-20 win
The last few minutes of the game proved to be crucial for the first team
THE first team of Kempton Park Rugby Club took on Nigel at Barnard Stadium on Saturday and managed to secure a 24-20 win in the last few minutes of the game.
They took on the visitors in all phases of the game and the team started to believe in themselves and their game plan.
It looked like the first team had settled well but bad discipline had Kempton back against the wall with two yellows at the same time.
However, the fighting spirit of the team, with players putting body and guts on the line, gave them a chance to score in the dying moments to take victory in the last minute.
Zach van Loggenberg, JP Vermeulen and Jean Visser scored tries while André Smit succeeded with three conversions and a penalty. The second team played a tough game, discipline also costing them a penalty in the last minutes which gave Nigel the 6-5 win. Brandon Eveleigh scored the try.
The Wildehonde (U/21) played their first league match of the season against a tough Nigel team but thanks to all the support on the stands the boys pulled off an impressive 15-10 win to start their season.
Tries were scored by Colin Smith and Dylan Geel. Barry de Beer added a conversion and penalty.
