Record breaking win for Kempton Park Cricket Club

The highlight of the week came when Kempton’s captain, Johan Fourie, smashed a new record

KEMPTON Park Cricket Club (KPCC) won the Easterns premier league for a record breaking eighth time, extending their league successes as the most successful club in the Easterns Cricket Union.

This also meant that the club represented the province at the annual national club championships in Pretoria.

BIDVEST Steiner Kempton Park managed to cement their reputation as the strongest community club in the country finishing, third in a group behind TUKS and Stellenbosch University with victories over Border, SWD and Western Province champions.

“The team did extremely well and once again made everyone proud. We were unlucky on day 1 to lose to a very strong TUKS team but the boys bounced back with three great victories in a row,” said team manager, Hilton Nortje.

The highlight of the week came when Kempton’s captain, Johan Fourie, smashed a new record becoming the all time leading run scorer for the tournament. “Johan has set a high standard for everyone involved and it’s wonderful to see how his hard work and dedication has paid dividends. He certainly is a great example for any young player,” said Nortje.

Cricket South Africa man of the match awards were awarded to Nico de Klerk , Jurie Snyman and Johan Fourie. Wynand Hefer became the most capped national club championships player at his ninth tournament.

The club is expecting a successful season in the other leagues too with the club entering nine teams into seven senior competitions.

The Saturday first league team will look to continue their dominance of the league, only losing two games in the past seven years. The newly promoted second league team will be sure to put up a bold performance under the captaincy of Jaco Jerling.

The legends league team for over 35s is recruiting and all interested players are requested to get in touch with the club.
