VINCE Buttrick of Kempton Park and partner Rod Carpenter of Boksburg shoot the turbulent right line at the mine rapid in Daleside during the Gauteng trials for the SA K2 Championships. The 22km FLCC Klip race took place on August 16 from Daleside to Meyerton, covering a number of tricky and technically difficult rapids. With paddlers and boats swimming all over the left side of mine rapid, Buttrick and Carpenter had no choice but to shoot the line on the right of the rapid to avoid the congestion. Their swim cost them some time but nevertheless they finished second in the K2 in their age category in a time of one hour 44 minutes, as the 20th double.
