The Rock FC retains title

The Rock FC retained the championship title after beating Liver Pool FC 5-4. The two sides met in the finals of the top eight soccer tournament which was played at the Winnie Mandela Zone 6 Sports Grounds on Sunday.

From the first whistle, both teams displayed good spirits but it was Liver Pool FC striker Nico Ramahlarelwa, who opened the scoring 18 minutes into the game.

Within minutes, Liver Pool scored again through Lazzy Mothele, from long range. At the end of the first half, the score was 2-0.

In the second half, the Rock FC absorbed the pressure and fought hard for an equaliser. They scored a brace through their reliable striker Wiseman Shiburi.

Against the run of play, Liver Pool’s attempts at goal were fruitless. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, which lead to a penalty shootout.

The Rock FC managed to score one more goal during the penalty shootout, beating their opponents 5-4.

The Rock FC head coach, Geared Baloyi, said he was excited with the achievement.

“We are the Winnie Mandela top eight champions. We will continue to protect our title. The performance of my players was outstanding and I am happy,” he said.

“We are appealing to business people to help sponsor our tournament. Tembisa has a lot of talent and we need all the support we can get,” he told The Tembisan.
