Tsotetsi wins the Tembisa Golf Club tournament
Francis ‘Nzima’ Tsotetsi is the Tembisa Golf Club’s king of the jungle.
August 16 and 17 saw the Tembisa Golf Club host its annual major event at the Kempton Park Country Club.
The history books were re-written once again during this 2014 Tembisa Golf Club championship, as Francis Tsotetsi beat all and sundry including pre-tournament favourites, Makati ,Sibandze and Mazibuko.
Makati, who over the years has dominated in the event, found the going rather tough, as the solid-hitting Tsotetsi and Sibandze out performed him during the first 18 holes.
Nevertheless, the final 18 holes on Sunday saw a Sibandze and Tsotetsi showdown as only two shots separated the two champions after the first round. They went through the daunting Kempton Country Club layout with Tsotetsi eventually and gallantly pulling it off by a single stroke and thereby becoming the 2014 king of ’Mambiza’.
With this win, Francis becomes Tembisa’s best for the 2013 and 2014 calendar, head and shoulders above the rest.
For his feat, he collected a trophy which is to be defended in 12 months, plus the championship winner’s cheque.
The B division saw Broadia Matlogela pulling out the stops and beating a strong B division field that included Zacharia Moremi, Themba Nxumalo and Ratha Botha.
He led the field with a nett 67 on Saturday and followed strongly with a nett 78 on Sunday. He became the B division champion for 2014.
“It was indeed a great year for the Tembisa Golf Club, with two of their major events, the golf championship tournament and the recent American Scramble betterball tournaments concluded successfully. The remainder of the 2014 events look appear to also be running smoothly. The scores are truly reflective of the amount of efforts the guys put in at the local Ebuhleni facility ,” said the Tembisa Golf Club’s organising secretary, Benjamin Monyanyedi.
