7 World records between them

Both men are affiliated to Rhino Power Lifting Club South Africa (RPC)

TWO Kempton Park power lifters set seven new world records between them at the Global Power Lifting Committee’s world championships in Argentina in the first week of October.

Jaco de Waal and Jan Kruger both won gold medals in their respective weight divisions.

De Waal also lifted the coveted trophy for overall best lifter in the men’s open division, while Kruger came second in the overall masters division.

De Waal set four new world records in the 82.5kg men’s open division with a 300kg squat, 200kg bench press and 315kg dead lift for a competition total of 815kg.

Kruger set three new world records in the 125kg masters 3 (50-54) division by improving the world squat record from 270kg to 295kg, the bench press from 170kg to 195kg and the overall total from 710kg to 795kg.

Both athletes hold all SA records in their respective weight classes and divisions and they are looking forward to improving on this year’s performance at the GPC World Championships in Las Vegas next year.

Both men are affiliated to Rhino Power lifting Club South Africa (RPC).

RPC achieved a second place in the overall team standings by beating 27 other member countries, including the USA, Great Britain, Australia, Russia and Germany.
