First ever women’s cricket side at Kempton Cricket Club

In their first match they bowled out Duduza for only 15 runs in five overs

KEMPTON Park Cricket Club made history on Saturday when the club fielded its first official women’s team in the Easterns league.

This was made possible through the management of Nickey Nagel, who has spent many a season developing both junior and women’s cricket in Kempton Park.

The women started their career at Kempton with a bang, scoring a massive victory against Duduza. Kempton posted 284 with Shayla Cousins 94 not out, Marlene Botha 91 and Carmen Nagel 34 not out, all shining with the bat.

Kempton then dismissed Duduza for 15 runs in five overs with Rode de Nysschen taking 5/6 in three overs, Caitlin Eaton 1/12 in two overs and Verunissa Reddy 1/1 in one over.

The senior men’s leagues produced mixed results as all the Sunday leagues got underway. The premier league side, defending champions, lost against CBC Boksburg in a hard fought affair. Kempton were sent in to bat and after losing early wickets, managed to post a score of 178 all out.

Johan Fourie made 70 and Sarel Myburgh 32. CBC reached the target in the 47th over with four wickets remaining.

Kyle Marshall, Christoff Visser and Fourie all bowled outstanding spells.

The premier reserve team suffered a heavy defeat away at CBC with many regulars being called up to the premier team. Young JD was the only batsman to offer any resistance to the CBC attack.

Kempton limped to 146 all out. CBC reached the target with four wickets down.

Kempton’s director’s team produced an outstanding performance to beat United Cricket Club. Kempton were sent in to bat by United and posted 309 with Don Mackay top scoring with 94. United were dismissed for 283.

This weekend the premier league comes to a halt with a general bye for all teams. The premier reserve side will take on Nigel in the new crossover at Barnard Satdium.
