Fighter to represent South Africa in Prague

He won the South African veteran championships in Pretoria

ISFO fighter Gerhard van Niekerk will represent South Africa at the World Kickboxing Federation Championships in Prague from November 10 to 15.

Van Niekerk started training in traditional karate with shihan Danie du Plessis in 1984 and obtained his senior black belt (1st dan) in 1988 when he was in matric.

After spending two years in the Air Force, he started training again and represented Tukkies’ first team in traditional karate. Unforeseen circumstances forced Van Niekerk to stop training.

In 2011 he rejoined Du Plessis who now trains kickboxing.

After years of very hard training Van Niekerk won the South African veteran championships in Pretoria earlier this year.

This achievement got him a spot in the South African team for the Prague event.
