The marathon will be held on December 7 at the Katlehong Sports Complex
SHOW your solidarity in the fight against HIV and Aids through running in an Ekurhuleni marathon.
The City, together with Soul City Sports Club, is once again hosting the World Aids Day half marathon at Katlehong Sports Complex on December 7.
People will be able to enter in either the 21.1km or 10km runs or the 5km fun run.
“The race is aimed at encouraging participants and communities at large to unite in the fight against HIV and Aids by showing support for people living with the virus and those who are affected. The race will also commemorate the lives lost due HIV related sicknesses,” Ekurhuleni spokesman, Themba Gadebe, said.
A second objective of this race is to create awareness around the dangers of unprotected sex and having multiple partners, which is of significance in Ekurhuleni, especially because the city has one of the highest rates of HIV infection in the country.
“Various NGOs in the field of HIV and Aids will participate in the day’s proceedings. They will be present at the race venue to distribute educational information and provide counselling and testing services.”
You can pick up an entry form at the city’s sports and recreation offices in Germiston. Athletes can also enter online at www.entrytime.com
Registration and entries for all the races will open at 5.30am on the day of the event. The starting time is 7am for the 21.1km and 10km races and 7.10am for the 5km fun run.
