Metro hosts inaugural athletics trials
This action will ensure that all athletes that are performing at high level are channelled to the sport academy
EKURHULENI Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Department, in partnership with Central Gauteng Athletics, will host its inaugural athletics trials to identify athletics talent among the young athletes in Ekurhuleni on Saturday, February 28.
The trials will take place at Germiston Stadium from 8am to 5pm.
The search for talent in Ekurhuleni has been motivated by the need to contribute to national teams and bettering the performance of team South Africa at international stage. The municipality has endorsed the idea of establishing an athletics sport academy which will give support to all identified talented athletes coming from the metro.
In order to ensure that the talent identified during this year’s athletics programme is not lost, the municipality’s sport academy section have agreed with Central Gauteng Athletics to channel all the identified athletes from the trials so that their performances can be ranked with all athletics performances in Gauteng.
This action will ensure that all athletes that are performing at high level are channeled to the sport academy for support and further development.
