Easter sports tournament for youngsters

Tembisa footballers in ward 10 will host the WafaWafa Easter Games Tournament at the Welamlambo Sports Grounds.

The netball and top eight soccer tournament will kick off on April 3 to 6.

According to the tournament’s organiser, Mr Thabiso Hadebe, the games are aimed at encouraging existing and active teams in the community.

“Through this programme, we aim to sustain the netball and football teams to grow and progress in the field. The tournament will be part of their training. We also want to remove the young adults from the streets during the Easter holidays and develop them to become football stars in the future,” he said.

Mr Hadebe added that they are inviting interested teams to join the tournament.

“Registration for the tournament has already opened and will run until the end if this month. For the top eight soccer teams, we are targeting U/15, U/17 and U/19 teams,”he added.

Mr Hadebe said they are appealing for sponsorships from local business people, or any good Samaritans, to help make the event a success.

“Our current promising sponsors are BB Supermarket and Mr Bongani Mngomezulu. There are prizes to be won in the tournament,” he said.
