Tembisan golf champs ready for battle
Only a few of the over 3 000 golfers in Tembisa qualified to participate in Tembisa's golfing major
Referred to as ‘The Club Championship’, which is played over two gruelling days over 36 holes.
The event will be held once again at the Kempton Park Country Club on May 1 and 2.
According to the event organiser, Mr Benjamin Monyanyedi, the event is played in accordance with royal and ancient golf rules and it only attracts the cream of golfers in Tembisa.
“It should be remembered that you have a pool of over 3 000 golfers in Tembisa, a pool which includes celebrity golfers like DJ Sbu Leope, BEE golfer Amos Zondo, networking golfers such as Putco Mafani and sons of the soil like Ditau “Diarora” Molefyane, who at the least, hits a golf ball as good as he used to do in the boxing ring,” he said.
“The club championship is a different kettle of fish, as it is the event that determines who is the best golfer in Tembisa. Once crowned, that golfer becomes the best in every street, becomes the best in every corner, becomes the best in every yard, becomes the best in every house, the best in all the sections and rivers of Tembisa. For his efforts, he will win a traditional floating trophy and a large cheque,” said Mr Monyanyedi.
Mr Nzima Tsotetsi, who will be defending his championship title, said winning the title was like winning the US Masters, given the amount of pressure, passion, excitement and the daunting championship golf course.
Mr Tsotetsi is undoubtedly one of the best, from tee to green, and the best iron shot player in Tembisa.
He has a solid game, but this time he has the likes of young Stewart Mabena, Joe Makati, Sobantu Sibandze, Jerry Mosia and surprise package Harry Mthembu, who will be hot on his heels.
The B Division will see defending champion, Mr Brodia Matlogela, facing the likes of Moremi and Sibeko,Molele, among other challengers.
“We wish everyone a great championship; let golf clubs and refined swings do the talking,” said Mr Monyanyedi.
