Locals take part in wheelchair tennis camps
Residents from Ivory Park took part in Wheelchair Tennis South Africa's recent two-day development tennis camps.
These were held at the homes of tennis, Arthur Ashe Tennis Centre in Soweto, Retondale Tennis Club in Pretoria, with the third camp staged at Khayelitsha in Cape Town. The camps were aimed to improve and increase the level of play and knowledge of promising and grassroots tennis players.
The camps saw over 80 young tennis enthusiasts, with 17 players in Khayelitsha, 30 players at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Centre and 30 players in Pretoria, including former South African number 1 men’s player Sydwell Mathonsi and number 2 Desmond Monyamane.
Participants from the weekend’s camps were from Thembalethu School in Cape Town, Adilate Tambo School, Kwa Thema, Mohlakeng, Palm Springs in Johannesburg and Meerhof School, Filadelfia and Ivory Park.
Camp Directors Patrick Selepe, Siyabulela Nkachela and Archie Lemeko conducted the camps in Cape Town, Pretoria and Soweto respectively, and had assistance from the regional tennis coaches.
