The club's prize-giving will take place on Saturday

GAUTENG Pigeon Union racing pigeons scheduled to be liberated in their second last combined liberation of the season from Middelburg in the Eastern Cape were instead released from Noupoort on Saturday.

The birds for the first race were released at 6.50am but there was a lot of cloud cover and the birds turned for some time before flying towards Gauteng.

Because of the cloudy weather, the birds for race 2 were transported back to Noupoort about 30km from Middelburg on the N9 towards Colesburg. The birds for race 2 were liberated 1 hour 40 minutes after the Middelburg birds at 8.35am. The skies were clear and the birds headed straight for home.

River Park Pigeon CLub birds had a nett flying time of 8 hours 23 minutes and 29 seconds for race 1 and the 30 positions on the result sheet were fill in 29 minutes 28 seconds.

For the second week in a row, Reinhold Brichta was first to clock (also 3rd, 18th, 22nd, 23rd, 27th and 30th) with a 4 minute 3 second lead from Tallies Lofts.

The rest of the results were:

Hilton Pitout 4th, 10th, 17th, 19th and 24th; Sky Lofts 5th and 9th; Pieter van den Broeck 6th and 14th; Pine Pienaar 7th, 20th and 28th; Albert Neilson 8th, 11th, 12, 13th, 21st and 29th; Doves Nest Guest House 15th; Holtzhausen Hokke 16th; Nollie de Villiers 25th and Blackie Swart 26th.

The birds from the Noupoort liberation point had a nett flying time of 7 hours 36 minutes and 14 seconds and the 30 positions on the result sheet were filled in 57 minutes 21 seconds.

The results for this race show that this was a different type of race compared to the first race, firstly by the time it took to fill the 30 positions and then with three members scoring in four positions, three scoring in three positions and four scoring in two positions opposed to one scoring in seven positions, one scoring in six positions and one scoring in five positions in the first race.

Blackie Swart had his sixth win of the season (also 5th, 6th and 17th), 3 minutes and 7 seconds ahead of Hilton Pitout (10th, 12th and 25th).

The rest of the results were:

On Saturday the union goes back to Colesburg for their second last middle distance race of the season, about 595km for Riverpark, and this race is not a combined liberation with the other organisations.
